About the Project

​Our team is working with EcosySTEM Arts to design a fully designed product for children who are hospitalized and bedridden. Being hospitalized can be especially unpleasant for children as it can sometimes cause them to mentally regress. Our team is focusing on designing a toy that focuses on STEM and Arts in order to allow kids to retain and improve these skills during a long stay at the Children's Hospital.

  • ​Under 2 lbs.
Size
  • No larger than 10x10x7 inches.
  • No more than 2 separately sealed assemblies
Safety
  • Conforms to hospital Risk Management standards
  • No flashing lights
  • No sharp edges
  • No choking hazards
Durability
  • Handles rough play and sterilization
User Experience
  • Children enjoy playing with the toy and learn from it

Benchmarking

There are so many toys on the market and in order to make sure we didn't invent something that had already been made, the team did some research online and at local toy stores.

We determined that there were 3 main types of educational toys on the market right now: toys focused on building and rebuilding, puzzles, and toys focused specifically on engineering. Some examples from these three categories are shown below.
