The impact of this project is what makes it so special and motivating. As our project progressed and evolved, our impact grew larger and became a really important part of our project. The team initially thought our impact would be providing kids at Children’s Hospital with a fun STEAM toy and interacting with kids at all the outreach events. However, with the help of our director the team has also turned our experience and progressions with the design cycle into a school curriculum.
Our director Brian Jernigan works in education and attended South by SouthWest in February to showcase our project and story. With a lot of great feedback and ideas, Brian and the team have continued to grow this project by creating this website and launching a nonprofit. This nonprofit is based on engineering through empathy using the development of our toy as an example. Our website goes into detail about what we did for each step of the design cycle and it also has all the CAD and STL files with directions on how to make it so that people around the toy can replicate our toy as a learning experience.
Brian Jernigan is also working with other organizations and potential partners such as Boulder Valley School District and TSA to grow this into a curriculum for kids and educators all over the Colorado and eventually the world.
