Meet the Engineering Team

Meet the Engineering Team
Morgan, Aziz, Gabe, Diane, Micayla, Nathan, Sarah

A Little Bit About Us.

University of Colorado Boulder
Mechanical Engineering
Picture
The University of Colorado at Boulder is situated in the front range of the Rocky Mountains and is ranked one of the top engineering programs in the country.  The city of Boulder offers a diverse range of opportunities in engineering and many other extracurricular activities. In particular the Mechanical Engineering department offers a unique program through Design Center Colorado that allows senior year students and companies to pair up and work on real world problems and products. This experience gives students the rare opportunity to work with professionals in areas of interest before they graduate and transition into the workforce. Our team is extremely grateful for the experience and knowledge we have gained at our time at the University of Colorado in the Mechanical Engineering Department.

Morgan McQuain
Project Manager
Picture
Morgan is originally from California but moved to Colorado to go to school at the University of Colorado Boulder. She is currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Engineering Management. Morgan loves skiing, traveling, gardening and working with kids. Her passion for working with children is what originally drew her to this project. Working with the kids at the Children’s Hospital and other schools in the outreach events for the project was the most rewarding for Morgan because she got to see how excited all the kids were about helping each other and about working to improve the time the kids spend in the hospital. Upon her graduation this May, she will be moving to San Francisco to work as Project Engineer at Skyline Construction.

Diane grew up in Colorado Springs Area and attended the University of Colorado Boulder to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. She loves tennis, snowboarding, and traveling. Diane has always loved working with kids and was very excited about this project and the outreach events. Throughout the project, Diane felt it was very rewarding and incredible how the team was able to take the ideas and desires expressed by elementary and preschoolers and incorporate it into the toy. After graduating in May 2018, she hopes to move to New York City and work in technical marketing or market research.

Micayla Gilbert
Logistics Manager
Picture
Micayla is from Colorado Springs and is currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Biomedical Engineering Certificate. Her favorite thing to do in her downtime is travel and is always looking for a new place to go. The many years she has been working with children is what drew her to this project. During the course of this project she has learned a great deal about organization and project management . Her favorite part about this project was being able to see first hand how the project was affecting the children. Upon graduation, Micayla hopes to move to the west coast and be designing products for the medical field.

Aziz Bouland
CAD Engineer
Picture
Aziz is from Kuwait and moved to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado Boulder. He is pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. He loves martial arts, weightlifting, swimming and skiing. He was drawn to this project since his freshman project was building a portable gardening table for children with special needs and found it very rewarding. He learned many new skills working on this project and hopes to one day work on a similar project. After graduation he plans to go to a coding school in France and one day start his own software company.

Sarah Johnson
Test Engineer
Picture
Sarah attended high school in Colorado Springs and moved to Boulder to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. She loves yoga, hiking, and reading. Sarah was drawn to this project because her freshman year project which involved building a bridge for a school sparked her interest in working with children and teaching them about science concepts. Sarah enjoyed this project because it gave the team an opportunity to go from concept to product, while using outreach events to help the brainstorming process. Upon graduation, she will be moving to Denver to work as a designer at a sculptural fabrication company.

Nathan Sewall
Systems Engineer
Picture

Nathan is from Florida. He moved to Colorado upon graduating high school to attend the University of Colorado where he is studying mechanical engineering with a minor in energy engineering. He loves playing piano and meeting new people. He was drawn to the Children's Hospital project as he is passionate about using his knowledge in engineering to help people. The empathy aspect of this project was important to Nathan as it presented a defined problem that he could help solve and directly improve the lives of the children at the hospital. While on the project, as the systems engineer, Nathan worked to ensure that the design was functional and that it met the project requirements defined by the client. Upon graduation, Nathan wants to work in energy, either from the utilities side or the consulting side.

Natalie Bognanno
Artistic Lead

Natalie was born and raised in Indiana but fell in love with mountains after growing up skiing in Colorado every winter. She moved to Boulder to attend the University of Colorado where she is majoring in Environmental Design with an emphasis in Design Studies. In her free time, Natalie is passionate about fashion, art, and working with people. When she was introduced to this project, she was immediately interested because of the community outreach and being able to provide a tool that is both fun and educational for kids. Being able to teach through art and inspire the creation of art is something important to Natalie and this project was the perfect fit for that. After graduating this May, Natalie plans to stay in Colorado before pursuing a design career in the fashion industry.
